Gross to net salary estimator

A transparent, back-of-the-envelope estimate of Dutch gross ↔ net annual pay using only the 2026 box 1 income-tax brackets. It shows which brackets applied — so you can see the model, not a black box.

Rough indication — not a payslip. This applies the box 1 brackets and nothing else. It excludes the tax credits (algemene heffingskorting, arbeidskorting), the 30% ruling, pension and the 8% holiday allowance. It therefore overstates tax and understates real net pay. For an accurate figure use an official Belastingdienst calculator or ask us.

Model: only the 2026 box 1 brackets (35.75% / 37.56% / 49.5% at €38,883 and €78,426). No tax credits, no 30% ruling, no pension, no holiday pay. Below state-pension age. Updated 2026-07-28. This is a rough indication, not tax advice or a payslip.

How this estimate works — and what it leaves out

The tool does one thing, transparently: it runs your amount through the 2026 box 1 income-tax brackets. Gross to net subtracts the bracketed tax; net to gross searches for the gross figure that leaves your target net after that same tax. The breakdown shows exactly how much of your income falls in each bracket (35.75%, 37.56% and 49.5%), so nothing is hidden.

That simplicity is also its limit. A real Dutch payslip is quite different, because it applies the general tax credit (algemene heffingskorting) and the employment tax credit (arbeidskorting), which reduce the tax and are the single biggest reason your true net pay is higher than this estimate. It also does not model the 30% ruling, pension contributions, or the 8% holiday allowance. So treat the number as a ballpark for planning, not a figure to sign a contract on — for that, use an official Belastingdienst calculator or let us run your payroll properly.

Gross to net — FAQ

Is this a real payslip calculation?

No. It is a rough indication that applies the 2026 box 1 income-tax brackets to gross pay and nothing else. A real payslip also applies tax credits (algemene heffingskorting, arbeidskorting), any 30% ruling, pension contributions and holiday pay — all of which materially change the outcome. Use an official calculator or your bookkeeper for an accurate figure.

What does the estimator exclude?

It excludes the two big tax credits (algemene heffingskorting and arbeidskorting), the 30% / expat ruling, pension contributions, the 8% holiday allowance (vakantiegeld), and employer costs. Because it leaves out the tax credits in particular, it overstates the tax and so understates your real net pay for most employees.

Which brackets does it use?

The 2026 box 1 brackets (below state-pension age): 35.75% up to €38,883, 37.56% from €38,883 to €78,426, and 49.5% above €78,426. The tool shows exactly how much tax falls in each bracket.

Does the 30% ruling change this a lot?

Yes, significantly. Under the 30% (now "expatregeling") ruling a portion of your salary can be paid tax-free, which lowers the taxable base and raises net pay well above this estimate. This tool does not model it — see our 30% ruling page and get a proper calculation if the ruling applies to you.
